Job Title: Social Services Worker
Status: Temporary Full Time (8 weeks, 35hrs/wk)
Wage: $16.55/hr
Location: Onsite
Start date: 24 June, 2024, to 23 August, 2024
Reports to: Executive Director

Job Summary

Working within a small team that supports the program, the Social Services Worker will work directly with refugees who recently arrived in Canada and help them with their numerous needs as new immigrants.

Responsibilities

  • Welcome new Program Participants following the established intake procedures.

  • Work with clients one-on-one and support them to meet their program participation goals.

  • Provide settlement support to the program participants onsite.

  • Work with partner agencies to refer clients to social services required to succeed in the program.  

  • Following established procedures, respond to e-mails and telephone calls, and record/report messages and data.

  • Participate in overseeing household operations, including logistics and store management, organizing, and cleaning, for the overall safety and well-being of program participants, volunteers and staff.

  • Operate as part of a team and foster teamwork and collaboration.

  • Perform any other duties assigned by their supervisor.

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Excellent interpersonal skills

  • Excellent problem-solving skills.

  • Excellent customer service skills

  • Excellent computer skills, including proficiency in MS Office.

  • Good command of the English language (verbal and written). Fluency in French and other languages is an asset.

  • Good organizing skills.

  • Excellent attention to details

  • Ability to work independently but also thrive in a team environment.

  • Police records Check (Level C- Vulnerability Sector Check).

  • Knowledge of the social services sector in Ottawa is an added advantage.

  • Youth with a lived experience of a refugee claimant, those who are indigenous, black and other racialized and/or marginalized youth are encouraged to apply.

Work Conditions

The successful candidate will work in person during regular office hours. This is not a remote work position.
